How to use the Metronome

The metronome provides a count for each beat in a measure, helping you stay in sync with your project's tempo. You can choose to have the metronome sound during recording, playback, or both, or you can turn it off entirely.

Enabling/Disabling the Metronome

To enable/disable the metronome, click the Metronome button or press K on your keyboard.

Configuring Metronome Settings

To configure the metronome, click the drop-down menu next to the Metronome button to access the metronome settings panel.

  • Click specifies when the metronome should be enabled:
    • Recording turns on the metronome during recording. The metronome button will be red when enabled.
    • Playback turns on the metronome during playback. The metronome button will be green when enabled.
    • Both enables the metronome for both recording and playback. The metronome button will be blue when enabled.

  • Levels adjust the click levels for strong and weak beats:
    • Strong: Set the gain for the first beat of each measure.
    • Weak: Set the gain for all other beats.
  • Sound choose the metronome sound from the available options:
    • Metronome: The classic metronome sound.
    • Hi Hat: A hi-hat cymbal sound for a sharper click.
    • Rock Beat: A solid rock-style beat for a more driving rhythm.
    • 4 on the Floor: A four-on-the-floor kick drum sound.
    • More Cowbell: A cowbell sound that adds some extra flair.
  • Output Level: adjusts the metronome's volume.
  • Output: select the output bus or hardware device for the metronome.
  • TAP: Click the TAP button to tap the desired tempo. Then press Apply to set the tapped tempo, or press ESC to cancel.
