How do I connect an audio interface in Cakewalk Sonar?

An audio interface replaces your computer’s built-in sound card and is recommended when working with professional recording software to ensure the highest audio quality for input, output, recording, mixing, and playback. Most interfaces connect via USB, while older models may use FireWire, and newer ones can use USB-C or Thunderbolt. Some are plug-and-play, while others require installing a driver from the manufacturer’s website, so be sure to check for the latest drivers before following the steps below.

To connect a USB Audio Interface to Cakewalk Sonar:

  1. Connect your device to your machine prior to starting Cakewalk Sonar
  2. Launch Cakewalk Sonar
  3. Go to Edit > Preferences, or press P when the Start Screen is closed to open the Preferences menu
  4. Under Audio > Playback and Recording, set your Driver Mode to ASIO. If your device does not utilize a driver from the manufacturer, try WASAPI Shared (Windows 10), or WDM/KS (Windows 7 or 8)
  5. Under Audio > Devices, make sure your device is selected in both Input and Output categories.

Click Apply and OK to save your changes!
