Now that you've downloaded Cakewalk Next, it's time to record some music. Most musicians enjoy recording using a microphone to record their vocals or instruments, whichever the case, here's how you can do so!

  1. Open Cakewalk Next
  2. From the Start Screen, click New Project then select Empty Project
  3. Click the + Add Track button in the track view, top left of the UI
  4. In the drop down menu, select either Mic/Line In, or  Instrument
  5. Check the icons for Track Record Arm Screenshot 2024-03-18 at 4.33.40 PM.png and Track Monitor Screenshot 2024-03-18 at 4.33.52 PM.png on the track.
  6. Speak into the microphone, and adjust the input gain on your interface while checking the metering on your track. If you’re using a USB mic, you can adjust the input gain either on the device, or via your device's sound settings.
  7. Press R to record, then Spacebar to stop. Press Spacebar again to listen to what you just recorded!
