About Theme Editor
Membership Feature:
Theme Editor is exclusive to active BandLab Membership subscribers.
The Theme Editor allows you to customize the appearance of Cakewalk Sonar by modifying the colors used throughout the user interface.
The editor is divided into two main sections: Theme (which defines default global colors used by the selected theme) and Overrides (which allows colors to be customized for specific views and interface elements).
Accessing the Theme Editor
The Cakewalk Theme Editor is available by navigating to Edit > Preferences > Customization > Colors > UI > Edit.
Theme Editor Layout & Options
The Theme Editor is split into two primary workspaces: Theme for global color palettes, and Overrides for view-specific element customization.
The Theme section defines the core color palette for the currently selected theme:

Surfaces: Contains four surfaces representing sets of default interface colors. Each surface defines separate:
- Background
- Foreground

Accent: Includes a dedicated accent color applied to elements that require visual emphasis, with separate:
- Background
- Foreground
Changes made to these colors affect all interface elements linked to the default theme palette.
The Overrides section provides granular control over colors for specific views and interface elements without altering the master theme palette.
The left pane lists the available view modules:
- Control Bar
- Track View
- Console View
- Piano Roll View
Selecting a view displays its customizable interface elements in the right pane. The available color options vary depending on the selected view module, allowing targeted customization while maintaining global theme defaults.
Saving Themes
Themes can be created, opened, saved, or reverted using the File menu.
Use Save As to create a separate copy of a customized theme while preserving the original template.
