About Cakewalk Core Plugins

BandLab Membership:

Cakewalk Core Plugins is exclusive to active BandLab Membership subscribers.

A collection of ten essential audio effects designed to deliver high-quality sound processing while maintaining efficient CPU performance. These VST3 plugins can be used in Cakewalk Sonar, Cakewalk Next, and any compatible VST3 host.

What’s Included in the Core Suite

Core Compressor

Variable-knee compressor with peak limiting.

Core EQ

Six-band parametric EQ with flexible filter types.

Core Delay

Stereo delay with tempo sync and diffusion.

Core Modulator

Six modulation effects (Flanger, Phaser, Chorus, Tremolo, Vibrato, Auto-Pan).

Core Reverb

Natural room simulations and acoustic spaces.

Core Gate

Dynamic noise gate with side-chain filtering.

Core Multiband Compressor

Five-band mastering-style compressor.

Core AutoFilter

Tempo-synced resonant filter.

Core Phase

Multi-stage phase shifter for stereo widening.

Core Spatial Panner

3D spatial panner for binaural stereo placement.

Availability & Prerequisites

Core plugins are currently available as add-ons, which you can access from the Updates page of Next or Sonar's Start Screen, or via the Cakewalk Product Center. These plugins are exclusive to BandLab Membership and can be activated within Next and Sonar, or self-authenticated for use in third-party DAWs.

Sonar 2025.08 build 31.08.0.031 or later
An active BandLab Membership subscription

Installation Locations

Windows Location: C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Cakewalk\Core\
macOS Location: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/Cakewalk/Core/

Note

After completing installation, perform a full VST scan within Sonar to detect your new plugins.

Automatic Migration from Sonitus Plugins

Sonar can automatically replace legacy Sonitus plugins in your existing projects with their modern Core equivalents upon loading.

To enable automatic migration:

Go to Preferences > VST Settings > VST3 Migration.
Enable the option Replace if Possible on Project Load.
Re-open your project; Sonitus plugins will be swapped to Core equivalents automatically.

A toast notification will be displayed after loading projects to show which plugins were replaced with newer compatible VST3 versions. Clicking the Show button in the notification will display detailed information for all replaced plugins.

Important Migration Notes

When opening a project, Sonar automatically migrates legacy Sonitus plugins to Cakewalk Core Plugins while preserving plugin settings and automation. Migration cannot be undone, so we recommend backing up your project first. Older Cakewalk versions and third-party DAWs do not support automatic migration.

Activating Core Plugins in Sonar

Activation is tied directly to your active BandLab Membership subscription:

In Sonar or Next: Sign in with your BandLab account inside the application and your Core plugins will activate automatically.
In Third-Party DAWs: Insert any Core plugin on a track, click the sign-in prompt on the authorization banner, and all Core plugins will activate across your system.

Key Activation Notes:

Unactivated plugins will load into your session, but audio processing will output silence.
Plugins can be used offline once initial online activation is completed.
Offline-only system activation is not supported.
