Guide on Using Tap Tempo in Cakewalk Next

If you’ve got a tempo in your head and want to quickly match your project’s BPM to it—whether it's a groove you're humming or something you're jamming out live—Tap Tempo makes it super easy to lock it in.

Using Tap Tempo in Cakewalk Next

To access Tap Tempo, head to the transport section at the top of Cakewalk Next (where the play and record buttons are), then click the dropdown arrow in between the metronome icon and current BPM display in the transport section. This will open the Metronome Options menu, where you’ll find the Tap Tempo controls.

Click the TAP button repeatedly in time with the beat you want—4 to 5 steady taps usually does the trick. When you’ve got your desired tempo, click Apply to lock it in, or hit Esc to cancel.

Need to Reset the Tempo?

You can always type a new BPM manually by double-clicking the current BPM display, or repeat the Tap Tempo process to update it.
